One day I was in the office of a wellness practitioner helping me maintain balance in a new high-pressure job, who asked me: "What do you do for self care?" I didn't really have an answer except that I was too busy to think about it. It was right before the pandemic.
During the pandemic, I came to realize two things: 1) that self care wasn't something I was very intentional about, and 2) I had a sense growing up that focus on others should take priority over oneself (this is what happens when you come from a long line of rabbis, teachers, and nonprofit fundraisers).
I created the wellness tools and process that I needed to better understand what self care is and find some simple ways to experiment my way forward (something I use in my coaching practice). Voila! Self Care for Busy People Instagram series was born and now we share the journey with others who are also busy and/or might have learned the same notion that self care is selfish (by the way, it ain't).
with love,
Leigha
Our definition of Self Care is:
any activity that we do intentionally to take care of the full range of our needs.
We categorize self care into six dimensions:
While it can absolutely include these activities, self care is much more than bath bombs, mani-pedis, and hitting the gym.
*not everyone has a spiritual or religious approach to their lives
